The documentary or fiction format
Documentary podcasts ("BBC-style", "NPR-style") and fiction podcasts can sound spectacular — but the production cost is steep.
Documentary mixes multiple voices, music, and actuality to add storytelling polish. Fiction ranges from audiobook-style to fully soundscaped audio drama. Both can grow fanatical audiences and showcase huge skill sets — writing, recording, sound design, performance. Some have even become TV shows.
The catch: time. These formats demand serious investment per episode, especially on a regular release schedule. Pick if you can afford it.
