Reading vs. speaking naturally
Reading from a script sounds like reading. Speaking off the cuff sounds like rambling. The right answer depends on the segment — not the whole episode.
Word-for-word scripts give precision but kill spontaneity. Bullet-point outlines give energy but risk meandering. Most great podcasters mix the two: read the parts that have to be exact (intros, sponsor reads, complex stats), speak conversationally everywhere else.
If you do read, write the way you talk. Short sentences. Contractions. Read it out loud before recording and rewrite any line that trips you. The script should sound like you on a good day, not like a press release.
A script is a safety net, not a cage. Use it when you need it; leave it when you don't.
